For many years, most Zimbabwean schools have enforced strict hair policies requiring girls to keep their hair short. However, a growing number of schools allowing girls' plaited hair are now emerging across Zimbabwe, reflecting a shift towards more inclusive grooming standards.
This practice of enforcing short hair dates back to the colonial era when African students in former Group B schools designated for Black students and often underfunded were required to keep their hair short as part of school regulations. These rules were based on pre-independence policies rather than official law.
Despite this historical precedent, no national policy strictly prohibits girls from plaiting their hair. Instead, individual schools set their grooming standards, allowing room for discussion between parents and school authorities regarding hairstyle policies.

In response to this shift, we have compiled an updated alphabetical list of schools allowing girls' plaited hair in Zimbabwe.
This resource aims to assist parents and students in identifying institutions that embrace plaited hairstyles while maintaining neatness and discipline.
This list will be regularly updated as more information becomes available. If you know of other schools that permit girls to plait their hair, please leave a comment or share updates in the review section to help keep this list accurate and comprehensive.
