Boarding Life

At St Anne's Goto, the boarding life is structured to support both the academic and personal growth of its students, fostering a disciplined yet nurturing environment.

The weekday routine is particularly rigorous with designated study times from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

This schedule is designed to instill a strong study ethic and ensure that students remain academically focused, providing ample time each evening for homework, revision, and preparatory work for the next dayโ€™s classes.

Saturdays at St Anne's Goto are reserved for personal care and maintenance, with students engaging in laundry activities.

This not only teaches them the importance of self-reliance and responsibility but also ensures that they start each week fresh and ready.

Sundays are dedicated to spiritual and academic nourishment. The day begins early with a church service from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, allowing students to engage in worship and community bonding, reinforcing the schoolโ€™s values and providing spiritual guidance.

Following the church service, students enjoy a later breakfast at 10:00 AM, which is a relaxing start to their Sunday.

The rest of the morning, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, is again devoted to study, ensuring that students remain consistent in their academic pursuits even on weekends.

For the junior students, the hostels are constructed in a style reminiscent of classrooms, subdivided into four distinct sections.

Each partition is designed to house five students, thereby accommodating a total of twenty students per unit.

Meal Plan

Tuck Policy

However, starting in 2025, there will be restrictions on what can be brought to school. This change is being implemented to address concerns about students bringing prohibited items onto campus.

The aim is to maintain a safe and appropriate school environment while still allowing students to enhance their daily meals.

St Anne's High School currently operates a tuckshop where students can purchase snacks. In 2025, the school plans to expand this facility into a supermarket.

This expansion is aimed at providing a broader range of products and services to meet the diverse needs of students and staff.

The upgraded facility will offer more extensive food options and other essentials, enhancing convenience and accessibility within the school premises.

St Anne's Goto utilizes a hybrid power system consisting of the main grid electricity (ZESA), supplemented by solar power and a generator for backup.

ZESA, as the main grid provider, offers a stable and reliable source of electricity under normal circumstances, but in times of outages or load shedding, the school's alternative power sources come into play.

  1. The Fowl Run will be revamped for poultry and egg production
  2. The Vegetable Garden will be restored for both school use and sales
  3. The Piggery will be upgraded to commercial standards
  4. Cattle Facilities will be refurbished to support a sustainable livestock project

Vocationalisation of the school

In 2025, St Anne's Goto is set to enhance its curriculum by introducing vocational training programs, signaling a strategic shift towards a more practical and skills-oriented education.

In the SDC report end of term 2025, it was reported that engagement was made with Starlink for the provision of internet services. A quotation covering materials and implementation was submitted.

Communication Platforms

SDC chairman noted that, to ensure that official information is shared accurately and consistently, new social media groups will be created during the holidays. This process will be carried out in collaboration with the school administration.

The new platforms will:

  • Be managed directly by the SDC and school officials
  • Be structured by form (Form 1 to 6), with only current parents included
  • Serves as official communication channels for school-related updates

St. Anne Goto SDC Chairman's End of Term 1, 2025 Update

All Parents, Guardians, Stakeholders

As we near closure of the school first term 2025, it is imperative that I update you on events of the past term.

As the new SDC, on assuming office just after our 2025 AGM, we embarked on assessing developmental issues at our school taking into consideration parents and the school staff both, teaching and non-teaching, concerns.

We noted areas below for immediate attention and implementation with a goal to have these as closed projects before opening of 2nd term.

1. Water Supply Problem

2. Back up Solar Power for Admin and Dining Hall (refrigeration)

3. Reliable internet supply

*WATER SUPPLY PROBLEM*

We engaged with Water Engineers who did the original mapping and implementation of the current water system at the school in or around the year 2018. A site visit was conducted in the SDC members' presence. After assessment, they assured us that we have enough water at the supply source for the whole school's daily requirements.

However, is there to upgrade and make necessary adjustments at the reservoirs (our main water bulk storage site) to suit demand changes that have come up over the years including normal ZESA power supply. Need is also there to retraining of our water management staff on daily maintenance and distribution best practises.

The engineers compiled and shared a comprehensive report with full costs and timelines for the project for immediate implementation. On completion this will see all school water demand points having running water.

*SOLAR POWER BACK UP *

We assessed recently acquired materials and took note of the existing Invertors, which are faulty and require replacements.

This project intention is to unsure solar power back up supply for critical areas of the Dining room, Administration Block and Computers Block.

Finalization of the scalable solar system diagram is in progress for the assessment and procurement of remaining items.

*INTERNET CONNECTIVITY*

We engaged with Starlink for internet service provision and an estimate of costs for both materials and implementation has been shared.

This project will see the school move greatly towards implementation of internet-based innovations like E-Library etc.

*CHALLENGES *

Our major challenge on the implementation and immediate closure of the noted three project areas was on funding as, on our assumption of office, the Term 1 2025 allocated SDC funds had already been exhausted on funding for completion of previous year/term classrooms tiling project and Chemistry Lab upgrade.

As the SDC we are engaging with the Responsible Authority through the School Board of Governors as we endeavour to have the water project worked on during the school holidays to completion as clean and reliable water supplies are relevant for all school activities including any future developmental projects.

*RECOMMENDATIONS*

As strive to push our school to a high standard, safe and quality environment for both teaching and learning we require all stakeholdersโ€™ hands on Deck, this requires full cooperation support and patience from us as parents.

We noted with great concern a VERY high Debtor amount owing on UNPAID SCHOOL FEES. It is therefore our push as the SDC to ensure that all in arrears catch up on their balances during the school holidays.

Payment of fees not only help us achieve our development goals but makes it easy to ensure that teaching and learning at the school is flawless and of high standards.

Let us all parents pay up our balances to avoid any inconveniences to our children's learning programs and access to reports for this term. We will implement the No fees No Entry policy at the school Gate and Classrooms as well during 2nd Term opening.

*FUTURE COMMUNICATIONS*

As the SDC we need to have complete control of social media handles to ensure communication and sharing of correct official School information with parents and as such we will be taking on an exercise during the holidays with the school admin to recreate new WhatsApp and other official School social media groups.

First port of call will be WhatsApp Groups were going forward formal groups will be split into Form-by-Form structure to accommodate ONLY parents and guardians who have their children currently enrolled at the school.

*FUTURE PROJECTS*

With the blessing and input of all stakeholders our school Board and Parents, below are commercial projects which we shall be pursuing as the SDC beginning term 2 2025 as we strive to make our school self-reliant and self-sufficient by the end of year 2025.

1. Revamping of Fowl run for Chickens and Eggs Project.

2. Vegetable Garden restoration to sustain both school and commercial markets requirements

3. Piggery Project revamping to a commercial level

4. Cattle Project facilities revamping.
