Last updated: 25 October 2026

OpenClass respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store and share personal information when you visit https://openclass.co.zw, download our resources, subscribe to our newsletter, contact us or use our available services.

1. Who is responsible for your information?

OpenClass is a Zimbabwe-focused education platform providing school profiles, parent resources, downloadable guides and education-related services.

The organisation responsible for personal information processed through OpenClass is:

Operator:Parent Connect Zimbabwe
Address: Sahil building corner Angwa Robert Mugabe, Harare
Privacy contact: [email protected]
Website: https://openclass.co.zw

2. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use OpenClass.

Information you provide: This may include your name, email address, telephone number, account details, enquiries, newsletter preferences and information you submit through forms, comments, reviews or available listing services.

Technical and usage information: Our website and service providers may process IP addresses, browser and device information, pages visited, referring websites, approximate location derived from technical information, and interactions such as link clicks, downloads and popup responses.

Public school and business information: We may obtain information from schools, businesses, their representatives and publicly available sources to prepare and maintain profiles. Where this includes an identifiable person’s name or contact details, we treat that information as personal information.

Please provide only information necessary for your enquiry or submission. Do not submit another person’s private information without appropriate authority.

3. Why we use information

We use information to:

  • Operate, maintain and improve OpenClass.

  • Respond to enquiries and provide requested services.

  • Manage accounts and submissions where these features are available.

  • Publish and moderate school profiles, listings, comments and reviews.

  • Send newsletters and promotional emails to subscribers.

  • Understand how visitors use our content and resources.

  • Measure downloads, referral activity and advertising performance.

  • Detect spam, misuse, fraud and security problems.

  • Meet applicable legal obligations and handle disputes.

Depending on the activity and applicable law, we rely on your consent, the steps needed to provide a requested service, legal obligations, or legitimate interests such as securing and improving our website. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it.

4. Free eBooks and downloads

Our free school guides can be downloaded without subscribing to our newsletter.

We measure download activity to understand which resources are useful and to report on their reach. Download-related processing may involve the selected resource, time of the request and technical information used by our website, hosting or tracking systems.

A download does not automatically subscribe you to marketing emails.

We may share combined download totals and other summary statistics with schools, advertisers and partners. These reports should not identify individual readers.

5. Newsletter subscriptions and email communications

When you subscribe, we collect the details entered in the signup form and use them to send OpenClass school guides, education updates, practical resources and occasional promotional or sponsored offers.

We use Brevo to manage subscriptions and deliver emails. Depending on our email settings, Brevo may record delivery, email opens and link clicks to help us assess and improve our communications.

You can unsubscribe using the link in our marketing emails or by contacting us. We may retain a limited record of your unsubscribe request to prevent further marketing messages.

Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent us from responding to your enquiries or sending essential communications about a service you requested.

6. Cookies, analytics and browser storage

OpenClass uses cookies and similar technologies, which may include local browser storage, to support website functions, remember preferences, protect the website and measure usage.

We use Google Analytics to understand visitor activity, such as page visits, traffic sources and interactions with website features.

Our downloads promotion popup may use browser storage to remember whether it has been shown or dismissed and to limit how often it appears. This preference applies to the browser being used and may reset if you clear its stored data.

Where consent is required for non-essential technologies, we will request it through the relevant controls.

You can manage cookies through your browser and any privacy controls available on our website. Blocking some technologies may affect website functions. Clearing cookies or browser storage does not unsubscribe you from email.

7. Public comments, reviews and listings

Information submitted for public display may be visible to anyone, copied or shared by others, and indexed by search engines.

Depending on the feature, public information may include your chosen display name, review, comment, business details or contact information you select for publication.

Do not include private telephone numbers, identification documents, medical information or identifying details about children in public submissions.

Contact us if you believe a submission exposes personal information inappropriately. Removing information from OpenClass may not immediately remove copies held by search engines or other websites.

8. Who receives information?

Personal information may be accessed by authorised people working on OpenClass and service providers supporting functions such as hosting, email delivery, analytics, security, backups and website maintenance.

We may also disclose information:

  • To a school, business or service provider when you explicitly ask us to pass on your enquiry.

  • When required by law or a valid legal process.

  • Where necessary to investigate misuse, protect rights or address a security incident.

Newsletter signup does not authorise us to hand your contact details to advertisers for their own marketing.

9. External links, embedded content and social platforms

OpenClass links to schools, advertisers and other websites, and may display embedded content such as videos or social media posts. Those services may collect information under their own privacy policies.

If you contact a school or advertiser through a link, WhatsApp button or external form, information you provide is handled by that recipient.

Facebook and WhatsApp also operate under their own terms and privacy policies. In a WhatsApp group, your telephone number and profile information may be visible to other members, depending on the service’s settings.

10. International processing

Some providers, including Google and Brevo, may process information outside Zimbabwe.

Where personal information is transferred internationally, we must consider the applicable requirements and appropriate safeguards. You can contact us for information about the providers involved in processing your data.

11. How long we retain information

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for its purpose, taking account of legal, security and operational requirements.

For example:

  • Subscription information is retained while your subscription remains active, subject to periodic review.

  • Limited suppression records may be retained after you unsubscribe.

  • Enquiry and service records are retained as needed to handle the matter and meet relevant obligations.

  • Public submissions may remain published until removed under our moderation practices or following an applicable request.

  • Analytics and technical records follow the retention settings of the relevant systems.

  • Deleted information may remain in backups until those backups are replaced or expire.

You may contact us to ask about the retention period applicable to your information.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse and disclosure.

No website, email service or internet transmission is completely secure. If a personal information breach occurs, we will assess it and make any notifications required by applicable law.

13. Children’s privacy

OpenClass provides education information primarily for parents, guardians, educators and school representatives.

Children should use a parent or guardian’s assistance when submitting personal information. We do not require children’s sensitive information to access our free school guides.

If you believe a child’s information has been collected or published inappropriately, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

14. Your privacy rights

Subject to applicable law and relevant exceptions, you may request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate details, deletion where appropriate, or object to certain uses of your information.

You may also withdraw consent where processing depends on it, including by unsubscribing from marketing.

Send requests to the privacy contact above. We may ask for proportionate information to verify your identity before disclosing or changing records.

If we cannot fulfil a request, we will explain the reason where permitted. You may also raise a complaint with Zimbabwe’s Data Protection Authority, POTRAZ.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our services, processing practices or legal obligations change. The latest version will appear on this page with its revision date. Where required, we will provide additional notice or seek renewed consent.
