St. John's Chikwaka is an Anglican School located near Bhora Growth Point in Goromonzi District of Mashonaland East Province, with a rich history deeply rooted in the community and its educational development.

The school, which offers the Zimsec syllabus, has 44 Teaching Staff and 33 non-teaching Staff. The school curยญrently has 1 023 learners, with 597 being girls and 426 boys.

The school's curriculum is comprehensive, offering a range of subjects from the sciences and humanities to arts and sports, aiming to provide a holistic education. At St Jonh's Chikwaka the curriculum has broadened to include more technical vocational subjects.

Food Technology, Music, Art and Design, Geometrical and Mechanical Engineering Drawing have been introduced to add on to the tech-voc subjects available. The aim is to further improve the quality of the product from the school.

In recent years, the school has adapted to modern educational standards by incorporating technology and updated teaching methods to enhance learning outcomes.

The school has achieved remarkable success, securing over 30 awards and trophies in recognition of its outstanding performance in both academic and sporting activities.

Over the years, St. John's has consistently achieved a 100 percent pass rate in A-level sciences. For O' level, the pass rate stood at 84 percent last year.

The school got a Diocesan award for the 2022 Aโ€™ and โ€˜Oโ€™ level best results.

It had a 100% pass rate at โ€˜Aโ€™ level with three learners with 20 points, two with 17 points three with 16 points, 15 with 15 points 12 with 14 points.

In the same year at O-level the school had an 84.9% pass rate with the highest obtaining 12 As.

The current 2025 fees for St Jonh's Chikwaka High School are $1540 when starting Form One or lower 6. This includes uniforms, once-off desk fee and textbooks.

After that, the cost is between $488 and $550 per term, depending on the practical courses the student is undertaking.

There are no St Jonh's Chikwaka High School application forms for form one places 2025. The enrolment is done through the Ministry of Educationโ€™s EMAP platform. 

This is usually available after the publication of the Grade 7 results. No applications are accepted directly at the school for the 2025 intake.

St Johnโ€™s Chikwaka installed a solar sysยญtem at the school that has a 5kva solar sysยญtem, 10kw batยญtery bank, 3,3kw PV modยญule and 26 securยญity solar lights. The sysยญtem supยญports all classroom lightยญing and also powers up the adminยญisยญtraยญtion block. Stuยญdents have their evenยญing lesยญsons and night studยญies with no fear of any blackยญouts.

 The school runs piggery and poultry projects and the proยญceeds have been used to conยญstruct some staff blocks and bought a 10-seater Toyota Hiace. These projects also support the schoolโ€™s dining needs hence cutting on the cost of feeding the boarders.

From the piggery project, a biodigester was built and the kitchen is using the gas for cooking. The school sells at least 20 pigs a week, showing how vibrant the project is.

Before Covid, the school had almost 500 pigs and 5000 broilers.

The school also runs a tuckshop. 

St Jonh's Chikwaka also has a big garden with variยญous vegetยญables like cabยญbages, brocยญcoli, vegetยญables, and carยญrots and an orchยญard that has 100 trees of apples and 100 trees of oranges.

A greenhouse has also been set up for tomato farming.

Infrastructure At St Jonh's Chikwaka

The school has four sciยญence laborยญatยญorยญies for bioยญlogy, sciยญence, physยญics, and comยญbined sciยญence and to date, St Johnโ€™s Chikwaka is one of the best schools in sciยญence in the counยญtry.

In 2016 the school conยญstrucยญted an ICT laborยญatยญory for A-level stuยญdents. Curยญrently, they have 20 blocks for classrooms and have also conยญstrucยญted a lecยญture theatre.

CCTV has been installed to help manage the students and enhance security.

The school is in the proยญcess of buildยญing a clinic that is expecยญted to offer medยญical serยญvices to the stuยญdents, memยญbers of staff, and memยญbers of the comยญmunity.

Four boreholes have been sunk at the school to ensure water availability for student's and Livestock.

The school has sufficient dormitories, ensuring that each room is shared by no more than three students.

Diet at St Jonh's Chikwaka

The school offers a standard diet that includes pork, beef and beans. Fruits from the orchard also contribute towards a balanced diet.

The school aims to provide students with a balanced diet, which is why they maintain a large garden. They also grow maize to ensure there is plenty of food for everyone, including the livestock.

Students are permitted to bring tuck to supplement their diet, but tinned food and sweets are not allowed.

The school believes in all-round education of the student. It has a vibrant marimba band. The school also has a music department that even has exams for the students.

The music department saw the school recording a music album in 2019 in line with the new curricullum.

Students can participate in popular sports such as soccer, basketball, netball, and athletics. Additionally, the school provides opportunities to engage in other activities like soccer, netball and volleyball.

In terms of clubs, St. Johnโ€™s Chikwaka hosts various interest-based groups, including drama and debate clubs, music and choir groups, and environmental clubs.
