Every year, thousands of parents and guardians use the Electronic Ministry Application Platform (eMAP) to apply for Form One boarding school places in Zimbabwe.
The platform, administered by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE), allows parents to submit applications to government and mission boarding schools without having to travel to each school.
However, securing a boarding place requires more than simply registering on the platform. Parents need to understand how the application process works, which schools to select, the admission requirements and what happens when a school offers their child a place.

This guide explains how to apply for a 2027 Form One boarding school place on eMAP, how to check your application status, how to choose suitable schools and some of the common mistakes parents should avoid.

When Will eMAP Applications for 2027 Open?
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has not yet officially announced the opening date for the 2027 Form One boarding school intake.
However, based on previous years, the eMAP application portal is expected to open in early November 2026.
For the 2026 intake, the platform opened on 5 November 2025. Parents were able to register and apply to their preferred boarding schools before the ZIMSEC Grade 7 results were released.
Schools only began making placement decisions after the results became available in early December. This means parents applied for about a month before schools began the selection process.
Once the results were released some parents had to go back to the emap.co.zw login page and adjust their school choices — especially if their child’s points did not match the cut-off for the schools they had initially selected.
The application platform remained open until 31 December 2025, although feedback shared by parents in our Facebook community indicated that many boarding school offers had already been made before 10 December.
This is an important point for parents to understand.
The closing date for applications does not necessarily mean schools will wait until that date before offering places.
While these dates provide some guidance, the Ministry will communicate the official opening and closing dates for the 2027 intake.
Our Advice for Parents Preparing for eMAP application portal 2027
Start researching boarding schools now, rather than waiting until the application portal opens. Boarding places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply to your top five schools early, when the portal opens.
Boarding school places are very limited, and competition is fierce.
For example, in 2024, there were only 25,000 boarding places available against 393,000 Grade 7 candidates nationwide.
In 2025, there were 30 000 places against 418 000 candidates. Even though not every candidate applied for a boarding place, demand still far exceeded the available slots.
However, parents should not assume that applying first automatically guarantees a place. Schools still consider admission requirements, available places and the learner's Grade 7 results.
Once the results are released, log in again to check the progress of your applications and whether your child's results meet the requirements of the schools selected.
If changes become necessary, follow the procedures permitted by the platform. Do not assume that a submitted school choice can simply be removed or replaced.
Remember, if all five schools reject your application, the system allows you to reapply to five more schools.

How Does the eMAP Form One 2027 Application System Work?
The eMAP platform allows parents and guardians to submit Form One boarding school applications online.
Under the Ministry's instructions for the 2026 intake, each learner could apply to a maximum of five schools at a time.
An important feature of the system is that the five choices are not ranked.
In other words, the system does not treat the first school you select as your most preferred school, followed by second, third and fourth choices.
All five schools are treated equally.
Schools consider applications according to their admission requirements and available boarding places.
Once an offer is made, parents are notified through the system, including SMS communication.
The Ministry's previous instructions also explained that once a boarding place is accepted, the learner's other pending applications are automatically cancelled.
Parents should therefore select their five schools carefully.
When Do Schools Start Selecting Form One Learners for eMap Form 1 enrolment?
For the previous intake, schools began making selections after ZIMSEC Grade 7 results were released in December.
This is because Grade 7 performance is an important consideration in the admission process, particularly at schools that receive far more applications than the available boarding places.
For example, a school with 100 Form One boarding vacancies may receive several hundred applications.
Such a school will need to consider its admission requirements when deciding which learners to offer places.
Parents should not be surprised if their applications remain pending while schools wait for Grade 7 results or process the applications received.
The exact selection arrangements for 2027 will depend on the Ministry's instructions for the new intake.
How to Apply for a 2027 Form One Boarding School Place on eMAP
Follow these steps to apply on the www.emap.co.zw 2027 application portal.
Step 1: Access the Emap application portal
Open your internet browser and visit:
On the homepage, look for the registration link labelled “If you do not have an account please Sign Up Here”.
Click the link to begin registration.
Read the instructions displayed on the platform carefully before proceeding.
Read and understand the instructions and click on ‘I understand‘.
Step 2: Create an eMap Form One Application 2027 account
You will be required to enter the learner's details.
In previous application cycles, these included:
- The learner's Grade 7 examination centre number
- Candidate number
- Date of birth
- Parent or guardian's mobile number
- Email address, where applicable
- A password for accessing the account
Ensure that the information you enter matches the learner's official examination records. For example, if they have an initial you must put it, otherwise the system will not find the candidate.
After you are done confirm that the former school has cleared the pupil and proceed.
Once you have completed the required fields, register the account.
Important: Keep your login details somewhere safe. You will need them to return to the platform and check your applications. In the past, we have had a lot of instances where parents forgot their login details and could not track the application.
This turned out to be a big challenge as you can not create more than one account per child. So be very careful with storing your login details.
Step 3: Sign In To The eMap Application Account
After creating your account, return to the eMAP login page.
Enter the required login details, including the examination centre number, candidate number and password, as requested by the system.
Click the sign-in button to access the learner's application dashboard.
If you have forgotten your password, follow the recovery instructions provided on the platform.
Step 4: Choose the Boarding Schools You Want
Once you have logged in to your eMAP account, click on “Apply for Form 1 Place” to begin selecting your preferred boarding schools.
The system will ask you to select the province and district where the school is located. Once you have selected these, a list of available boarding schools in that district will appear.
Choose the school you want and click Apply. Repeat the process for the other schools on your shortlist.
Under the rules used for the previous intake, parents could apply to a maximum of five boarding schools at a time.
Be Careful When Selecting Schools!
The five schools are not ranked according to preference. The system treats all five applications equally, regardless of the order in which you select them.
This means that the first school you apply to is not necessarily the school that will consider your application first.
Be Careful Here! Once you apply to a school you can't change it. Check the instructions on the platform carefully before confirming your choices.
We strongly recommend that you only apply to schools where you would genuinely be willing for your child to enrol.
Not Sure Which Province or District Your Preferred School Is In?
One common challenge we have noticed is that parents sometimes know the name of the school they want but are not sure which province or, more commonly, which district it falls under.
Unfortunately, the eMAP platform does not provide a straightforward way of searching for a school by name across all districts.
You first have to select the province and district before the school appears on the list.
This can be frustrating, especially when you find yourself moving from one district to another trying to locate a particular school.
We recommend two ways of finding this information without wasting time.
1. Ask Other Parents in Our WhatsApp Groups

If you are unsure which district a particular school falls under, you can simply ask in one of our groups.

2. Search for the School on OpenClass.co.zw
Another option, and one we particularly recommend, is to visit www.openclass.co.zw.
Use the search facility on our website to find the school you are interested in and open its profile.
Our school profiles provide information such as the school's location, province, district, fees, contact details and other useful information, where available.
You can therefore find out which district your preferred school falls under before returning to the eMAP platform to complete your application.
This can save you considerable time and frustration.
Our Advice: Prepare Your School Locations Before eMAP Opens
We strongly recommend that parents do this research before the application portal opens, rather than waiting until they are ready to submit their applications.
As you shortlist schools, make a note of the following information for each one:
- Name of the school
- Province
- District
- Previous Grade 7 cut-off units, where available
- School fees and other important costs
You should ideally have this information for at least 10 to 15 schools, even though you can only apply to five at a time under the previous intake's rules.
That way, if your initial applications are unsuccessful and the system permits you to apply again, you will already have alternative schools to consider.
Remember: When eMAP opens, thousands of parents will be trying to secure boarding places for their children. The last thing you want is to spend time trying to establish which district a school belongs to when you could have gathered that information weeks earlier.
A little preparation now will make the application process much easier.
In other words, make sure you apply for the schools you want as there is no way of changing a school once you have applied.

This is particularly important for popular schools expected to experience high demand. Early application can significantly increase your chances of securing a place at your preferred school.

For the 2026 intake, the application platform closed on 31 December 2026. Applications for the 2027 intake have not yet opened. Parents and prospective learners are encouraged to look out for updates on the 2027 application opening date.
You can log in to the account and click ‘Check Status of Application‘. Zimsec says it will send notification SMS's as well but it's best to check for yourself time and again.
Reapply again to fifteen schools. However, this is highly unlikely if you've conducted thorough research, as you'll apply to schools that match your child's results more closely.
There is no prescribed waiting time. The time taken to process the application depends on the school of your choice.
This is a special case. You will have to take your papers and approach the nearest provincial education office to present your case. You will be given further instructions there.
You can visit www.openclass.co.zw and you will see profiles of high schools there. There you will also learn about the uniforms and fees of the various listed schools in Zimbabwe.
It means that one particular school has accepted your child and the status of all other schools changes to ‘Processed‘.
