Allan Wilson High School

Allan Wilson High school is a boys-only institution that is owned by the government. The school was founded in 1940 and it is the sister school to Queen Elizabeth Girls school.

It enrols boys from form one to six and it has a boarding facility. The average class size at the school is around 45-50 pupils.

Sports at the school include rugby, cricket, soccer, rowing, field hockey, lawn tennis, table tennis, weight lifting, baseball, boxing, karate, volleyball, swimming, diving, basketball, handball, badminton, chess, korfball, athletics, and cross country.

Every scholar is encouraged to participate in at least one sporting discipline. The school competes against Prince Edward School, St. John's College, Peterhouse, St. George's College, Oriel Boys' High, Churchill Boys High and Cranborne High.

In 2014 Allan Wilson was named as one of the best schools in Africa by The Economist Magazine.

Standards at the school have fallen in recent years. The school has an average to below-average pass rate and it has not made it to the list of top 100 best schools in Zimbabwe in recent years.

Allan Wilson High School Application

There are no Allan Wilson High School application forms to download for form one places 2021. The enrolment is done online through the Ministry of Education’s EMAP platform.

This is usually available after publication of the Grade 7 results. You are encouraged to apply as quickly as possible because the competition for places is stiff and there are fewer places available.

Allan Wilson School Fees

Allan Wilson is generally not an expensive boarding school and it is meant to cater from boys from medium-income families. Boarders at the school were paying US$420 a term in 2010.

In July 2019 boarders were paying ZWL1 586 which was equivalent to about US$200. The current tuition and boarding fees for 2021 at Allan Wilson are not available. If you are aware of them you can let us know in the comments below or email learn@openclass.co.zw

Allan Wilson High School Uniform

The school uniform comprises three main variants:

  • First Kit: long black trousers, black blazer, black shoes, white shirt, school tie, school belt and straw boater;
  • Second Kit: khaki shorts, white (long- or short-sleeve) shirt, black shoes, grey school stockings with garters, school tie, school belt and black cap or straw boater; and
  • Third Kit: khaki shorts, short-sleeve khaki shirt, black shoes, grey school stockings with garters, school tie, school belt and cap or grey felt hat (pork pie).
