St. John's College

St. John’s College is a leading independent boys-only secondary school in Zimbabwe that was founded in 1986. The school is located in Borrowdale and is owned and governed by the St John's Educational Trust.

St. John's Harare is a Cambridge school, meaning the school offers academic programs developed and assessed by Cambridge International Examinations (such as Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International AS and A-Level).

St. John’s College seeks to produce a holistic and self-disciplined person who can make a positive contribution to society. St John’s College recorded exceptional success in the 2024 Cambridge examinations, marking a historic milestone in its academic journey.

The IGCSE Subject Pass Rate (A–C)* reached an impressive 93%, an increase from 87% in 2023, making it the highest IGCSE result in the College’s 40-year history. Additionally, 41% of candidates achieved grades of A or A*, significantly improving from 32% in the previous year. Sixteen outstanding candidates were awarded the prestigious Academic Full Colours for their remarkable performance.

A standout achievement comes from Mabureza, who secured 10 A grades*, ranking in the 96th percentile across all subjects, including a perfect 100% score in Chemistry.

At the Cambridge AS Level, the Subject Pass Rate (a^–e^) stands at 90%, with 28% of grades falling within the a^ or b^ range. Six candidates have met the criteria for Full Colours or Honours based on their AS results.

The Cambridge A Level results reflect continued excellence, with a 97% Subject Pass Rate (A–E)* and 19% of grades at A or A*. These results highlight the dedication and perseverance of students, supported by committed educators and a strong academic culture.

St. John's College Pass Rate

In the 2020 IGCSE Cambridge exams, The school attained pleasing results.

They achieved an 87% pass ( up from 84% in 2019) and 41% of the results were A/A(29% in 2019). A record number of 33 students achieved Academic Colours standard at IGCSE (minimum 12 points with A = 2 points and an A = 1 point) and AS Level.

The 2020 AS Level Cambridge results at the school were also impressive. They achieved a 93% pass with 28% of the results being A* grades. Ten of their L6 students, in the accelerated class, wrote their full A Level Mathematics and achieved 4A4A1B&1C. Two sat for their full A-Level Chemistry and both achieved As.

During the same year at A-Level St. John's Harare achieved a 99% pass rate, 2% up from the previous year. 32% of the results were either As or As and 76% were A – C.

St. John's College Admissions

To apply for enrolment at St. Jonh's Harare you have to download and fill in the application form here.

The applicant will be required to sit an entrance assessment examination. He may also be required to attend an interview with the Head.

A non-refundable application fee will be charged with each application.

St. John's College Fees

The college is an elite school and as such its fees are on the high side.  According to Wikipedia, students in forms 1-4 used to pay US$2 600 while those doing A-Levels used to pay US$2 900.

Apparently, these fees went down at some point and St John's was said to have increased its fees in April 2020. The College wanted ZWL99 000 or US$ 1 650 from its A-Level students, and ZWL90 000 or US$1500 for forms one to four.
