St Ignatius College Chishawasha History & Background
St Ignatius College Chishawasha is a mission boarding school formerly run by the Roman Catholic Church. The mixed school, which was founded in 1962, is located in Chishawasha close to Harare.
The school became a rebranded independent private institution in January 2020.
The College offers education for boys in Forms One and Two, Forms Three and Four (Zimsec), for boys and girls in Forms Five and Six (Cambridge Higher School Certificate/ University entrance). St Ignatius is religious with a strong and overly academic bias.
Since its inception, the school has garnered a name as the hub of profound education maintaining a hold within the top ten list of the Zimsec national examinations.
The school has strong ties with St George's College and St Dominic's Chishawasha Secondary. There are no day students at St Ignatius College.
St Ignatius College Pass Rate
St Ignatius has a proud and illustrious academic record.
The pass rate averages ninety-eight per cent all round. Due to the impressive pass rate, St Ignatius College is one of the schools with the highest proportion of students entering the faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering and Veterinary Science in Zimbabwe.
In 2014 the school had a 100% pass rate at A-Level.
In the 2017 A-Level exams, the school produced with 24 students with 15 points or better in Zimsec and Cambridge exams giving them a 100% overall pass rate. There were 4 students with 24 points.
The 2016 O-Level exams saw 30 of the 76 students who set for “O” Level examinations at the college scoring 12 A’s and above while the average “poor” performers had 9 A’s each. The overall pass rate was 100%.
The November 2019 results were just as impressive at both ‘O' & A-Level with a pass rate of 100% and 98.73 respectively.

How To Apply For A Form One Place At St Ignatius College
The application to the college is done online via the government's eMap system. There are no downloadable forms needed to apply to the school. The applications are subjected to a strict screening process once they have been received.
Every year the school selects only seventy-two pupils into form one. This is usually less than ten percent of the applicants. Only applicants in the top twenty percent of their school stand a chance of being selected into form one at St Ignatius College.
How To Apply For A Form Five (Lower 6th) Place At St Ignatius College
Send an email to admissions@stignatiuscollege.ac.zw with the subject ‘APPLICATION FORM L6/2021”. The school will then send a personalized and uniquely numbered application form and further details. Complete the application form and return it with the required supporting documentation and application fee
The school mainly selects boys who would have studied O-Level at the school. Boys from outside average only about twenty percent of the total enrolment.
By default, the A-Level girls' places are reserved for outsiders. By and large only girls with not less than six As at O level make it.
All A level Science pupils specialise in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Physics.

St Ignatius College Curriculum
The College offers both Zimsec exams & recently introduced Cambridge classes. The first Cambridge Examinations to be attempted at the College will be in October 2021. The school started online teaching and learning on May 18, 2020, in response to the COVID pandemic.

Boarding Conditions & Student Life At St Ignatius College
The College is wholly boarding with a total enrollment of 404 boys from Form one to Form Six. There are Four hostels (Junior House, Middle House, Senior House and Mary Ward).
The boarding experience at the school nurtures independence, interdependence, critical life skills, self-reliance and self-discipline in learners.
Students provide their own bedding and toiletries. They also do their own laundry and general cleaning.
All the boys use the main dining hall while the girls have their meals at Mary Ward except for school lunches.

Extra-Curricular Activities At St Ignatius College
Sports
Being an avenue through which learner will find expression of their talents and individuality, sport is treated with the right pride of place with a deliberate effort to excel, whilst guided by the ethos of teamwork, honesty and fairness.
The following sporting disciplines are offered: Athletics, cross country, basketball, soccer, chess, hockey, handball, swimming, rugby, netball and volleyball.
Clubs
Culture continues to be an integral part of Jesuit Education since its inception. Thus the college strives to create cultural awareness, inculcate cultural values and provide a platform for students to nurture their talents and appreciate cultural diversity.
The following clubs are offered: Christian life community, arts and essays, drum-dance, quiz, debate, music, drama, youth against Aids.

Mr Hamilton Maganga is the substantive Headmaster of St. Ignatius College since the first of October 2020.
The deputy head of the school is Mr Hatrick Chiwanda.
