Additionally, Zimuto High’s robotics Olympiad squad earned a gold medal in Bulawayo and will represent Zimbabwe in Turkey later this year.

Zimuto High School’s commitment to intellectual pursuits is equally impressive.

The school has gained recognition for its achievements in public speaking and debate, with four students selected in 2023 to represent Zimbabwe at the Pan African Debate Championships in Togo.

Zimuto's debate teams, Gold Mafia and Purple Cupcake, have excelled in national competitions, securing second place at the national level and earning their spot on the continental stage.

Their success in the British parliamentary debate format highlights the school’s focus on critical thinking and eloquence.

Further demonstrating its dedication to intellectual growth, the school saw one of its students, Gwehama Tinomudaishe, achieve remarkable recognition by winning the diamond award and receiving a special mention in the astronomy Olympiad in Russia.

Projects at the school

The school also operates several agricultural and sustainability projects aimed at providing practical skills and supplementing the school's resources.

These projects include a thriving fishery, where students learn about fish farming and sustainable practices. Additionally, the school runs a piggery, which not only provides hands-on experience in animal husbandry but also contributes to the school's food supply.

The chicken rearing project is another key initiative, where students are involved in poultry farming, learning valuable skills in agriculture and business management while ensuring a steady supply of eggs and meat for the school community.

These projects play a crucial role in equipping students with practical knowledge that extends beyond the classroom.

There is also a solar project which powers the girls' hostel and the dining hall to improve the living conditions of students.

Zimuto High School Dormitory Accommodation

For Form 1 students, dormitory arrangements typically accommodate around 12 students per room, creating a communal living environment that fosters friendship and teamwork.

This setup is similar for Form 2 students, maintaining a close-knit atmosphere during their early years at the school.

As students progress to Form 3, the dormitory arrangements begin to shift. For girls, the rooms become more intimate, with 4 to 5 students sharing a space, while for boys, the number is slightly larger, with 8 students per room.

This adjustment allows for a more comfortable living experience as students advance through their academic journey.

By the time students reach Form 4, the living conditions become more refined, with both boys and girls typically sharing rooms with 4 students each. This provides them with more personal space as they approach their final O-Level examinations.

In Forms 5 and 6, the senior years, the accommodations are even more spacious and private. Students are placed in pairs, with just two individuals sharing each room.

This arrangement allows for greater focus and tranquility as they prepare for the demanding A-Level exams, offering a more conducive environment for academic success.

Challenges at the school

Zimuto High School faces several ongoing challenges that impact daily operations and the well-being of its students and staff.

Among these challenges are frequent power outages, a persistent water crisis, and concerns over learner security.

These issues have created difficulties for both the school’s administration and the students, affecting the smooth running of the school and the quality of life on campus.

However, steps are being taken to address these challenges, and there is hope for improvement in the near future.

Efforts to solarize the entire school are already underway, with the goal of eliminating power outages by the end of 2024.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe (RCZ) and supported by former Zimuto High students and generous donors, aims to ensure that the school no longer struggles with power shortages, providing a stable learning environment for all.

In addition to tackling power issues, there are also plans to resolve the accommodation crisis for staff members.

The RCZ, in collaboration with partners like DVT, is working towards improving housing conditions for the school's employees.

These developments show a strong commitment to overcoming the school’s infrastructural challenges, and the support of former students and well-wishers plays a crucial role in making these solutions a reality.

The school’s leadership remains optimistic that these issues will soon be a thing of the past through the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
