Peterhouse Girls‘ School is part of the Peterhouse group, including Peterhouse Boys, Springvale House Preparatory School, and Peterhouse Nursery School.

Peterhouse is widely regarded as Zimbabweโ€™s top independent boarding school and one of the premier independent schools in Southern Africa.

Peterhouse Girls' School was founded in 1987 and it caters to 430 girls from Form 1 to 6th Form all but 10 of whom are full-boarders. Peterhouse schools are situated on two estates on either side of the main road between Harare and Mutare just outside Marondera and share two conservation areas, Calderwood Park and Gosho Park.

The school has small class sizes; 20-25 in forms 1 and 2, 15 to 20 at IGCSE level, and 10 to 15 at A level.

Curriculum

Peterhouse Girls' High School offers a variety of subjects at A-level, A-s level, and IGCSE level. During the first 2 years, all students are introduced to a broad foundation of subjects to develop their skills and knowledge.

Peterhouse Girls' School Pass Rate

In 2024 Peterhouse Girls High achieved an outstanding A-Level pass rate of 97%, reflecting the dedication and hard work of both students and teachers.

At the IGCSE level, the school once again surpassed the 90% mark, demonstrating consistent academic excellence.

In the 2020 exams, the school attained the following results:
99% pass rate at A-Level
96% pass rate at AS Level.

In the Cambridge 2019 exams, the overall pass rate at Peterhouse Girls was 91.8% with 67.2% of all papers graded A* to B; this is the fifth year in succession that Peterhouse Girls has achieved a 90%+ pass rate โ€“ another excellent set of results.

Form 1 Admission into Form 1 at Peterhouse Girls is dependent upon the following:

i. Satisfactory performance in the CHISZ Common Entrance examination (written on the first Saturday in July of the applicantโ€™s Grade 7 year); and

ii. A satisfactory report from the Head of the applicantโ€™s junior school.

Parents of Form 1 applicants are encouraged to register their daughter with Peterhouse as she enters Grade 6. The deadline for applications is 30 April in the applicantโ€™s Grade 7 year.

Form 2, 3, and 4 Admission into Forms 2, 3, or 4 is dependent upon:

i. Satisfactory performance in any relevant exams (e.g. Common Entrance or internal school exams); and

ii. A satisfactory report from the Head of the applicantโ€™s current school.

Form 5 (Lower 6th) and Form 6 (Upper 6th) Admission into Form 5 or 6 is dependent upon:

i. Satisfactory performance at IGCSE/O Level; the applicant should have at least 6 B grades at IGCSE level and must have passes in English and Maths), and

ii. A satisfactory report from the Head of the applicantโ€™s current school.

At all levels, in deciding whether or not to admit an applicant to Peterhouse consideration is also given to:

i. The applicantโ€™s current school (preference is given to applicants who attend a CHISZ school); and

ii. Any previous connection the applicant has with Peterhouse (Sibling/Petrean).

Parents of all applicants (together with the applicant herself) are invited to visit Peterhouse for a tour of the school and to meet the Headmistress of Peterhouse Girls.

Peterhouse Girls' School Extracurricular Activities

Peterhouse Girls High offers a diverse range of extracurricular activities, allowing students to explore their talents and interests beyond the classroom.

Clubs and Societies

A variety of clubs and societies provide opportunities for personal growth, leadership, and community engagement. These include:

  • Arts and Culture: Art, drama, modern dancing, sewing & embroidery, and Shona Club.
  • Academics and Strategy: Chess, quiz club, Toastmasters, debate, and public speaking.
