The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has released the results of the 2024 Ordinary Level examinations today.
The results will be available online for 5 days only after the announcement of results. See instructions on how to see the results online below.
The release of these results follows closely on the heels of the Advanced Level results from November 2024, which saw a national pass rate of 94.58 percent, maintaining a consistent performance with the previous year’s results.
In 2024, 33,585 candidates registered for the Ordinary Level exams, a slight decline from the 34,437 participants in 2023, marking a 2.47 percent drop in candidates.
Among them, 33,246 candidates undertook two or more subjects. A total of 31,443 of these students achieved at least a Grade E, mirroring the 94.58 percent pass rate seen in the previous year.
The 2024 exams also highlighted gender disparities in performance. Female candidates excelled significantly, achieving a pass rate of 95.94 percent among those who took two or more subjects, an increase from 92.32 percent in 2023.
Male candidates recorded a pass rate of 93.13 percent, a slight decrease from 93.95 percent in the previous year, though their overall performance remained stable.
Progress was noted among special needs students as well, with 38 of the 40 candidates passing their exams, translating to a 95 percent pass rate. This shows notable improvement over the 84.62 percent pass rate in 2023.
School candidates totaled 29,041 this year, a decrease from 29,910 in the previous year. Out of these, 27,509 achieved a Grade E or higher across two or more subjects, resulting in a pass rate of 95.18 percent, closely paralleling the prior year’s results.
Private candidates numbered 4,544 in 2024, with 4,346 sitting for two or more subjects. Of these, 3,934 achieved passing grades, leading to a pass rate of 90.52 percent, slightly down from 90.57 percent in 2023.
Reflecting on the broader context, the 2024 results underscore the robust nature of Zimbabwe’s education system and the dedication of its students, educators, and all stakeholders involved.
Additionally, the Grade 7 results were released last November, showing a considerable improvement to a 49.01 percent pass rate, up from 45.57 percent in 2023. This was attributed to enhanced teaching methods, with girls averaging a pass rate of 53.68 percent, surpassing the boys’ rate of 43.99 percent.
