Gateway High is one of the 9 000 schools world-wide offering the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) curriculum.
Gateway High School, the curriculum follows the comprehensive Cambridge pathway, starting from Secondary 1, progressing to Secondary 2, and culminating with the Advanced Level curriculum. The Secondary 1 curriculum is designed to lay the foundation for the Cambridge IGCSE qualifications that students will pursue in Secondary 2.
Curriculum at Gateway High School
In the first two years, students follow the Cambridge Secondary 1 curriculum. This includes core subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, and Science, which culminate in the Cambridge Checkpoint exams.
These exams serve as a diagnostic tool, providing feedback on each student's strengths and weaknesses. While not a certification exam, the Checkpoint results offer valuable insights into areas for improvement.
Additionally, students study French, Shona, Geography, History, Design & Technology, Art & Design, ICDL Computing, Music, and Life Skills. These subjects are carefully designed to ensure a smooth transition to the Cambridge IGCSE qualifications.
Secondary 2 Curriculum (Cambridge IGCSE)
During the third and fourth years, students follow the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, which prepares them for the certification exams at the end of Secondary 2. The IGCSE is recognized internationally and provides students with the academic foundation required for further study at the A Level stage.
Advanced Level Curriculum
In the final two years, students undertake the Cambridge International AS and A Level curriculum. In the Lower Sixth (AS Level), students focus on the first half of their A Level subjects. Successful completion of the AS exams allows students to carry their marks forward to the A Level.
Those achieving a grade B or better may carry their AS marks to A Level, while those scoring lower may need to retake the AS exams. Mathematics is an exception, as it offers an option without a carry-over from AS.
This curriculum structure ensures a progressive, comprehensive academic journey, from foundational knowledge at Secondary 1 to advanced study at the A Level, fully preparing students for university and beyond.
