The Harare Institute of Technology is now enrolling for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Level 2 courses scheduled for September 2025. These courses are perfect for professionals in construction, mining, oil & gas, aviation, manufacturing, and welding.
All training is conducted in line with global certification standards, including:
- BINDT – British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing
- CSWIP – Certification Scheme for Welding Inspection Personnel (UK)
- ASNT – American Society for Non-Destructive Testing
- SAQCC – South African Qualification & Certification Committee
What is Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)?
NDT refers to a set of testing methods used to examine materials and structures without causing any damage. It's crucial for ensuring safety, quality, and reliability in critical industries. These methods help detect cracks, corrosion, internal flaws, or other issues without cutting or breaking anything.
HIT NDT Level 2 Courses:
1. Ultrasonic Testing Method (UT) – Level 2
Dates: 1st – 4th September 2025
Duration: 4 days
Tuition: USD 650
This course focuses on using high-frequency sound waves to find internal flaws or measure the thickness of materials. It's ideal for those working in pipelines, boilers, welds, aircraft, and steel structures.
You will learn how to:
- Use A-Scan equipment and digital thickness gauges
- Detect internal cracks and corrosion
- Interpret ultrasonic signals
- Perform inspections confidently and independently
2. Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) – Level 2
Dates: 8th – 12th September 2025
Duration: 5 days
Tuition: $650
MPI is used to find surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials like steel. This is a fast and effective way to identify weld cracks, fatigue damage, and other failures.
This course teaches you to:
- Apply magnetic fields and particles correctly
- Detect and interpret indications
- Understand the safety and standards behind MPI
- Work effectively on structures like bridges, rails, and tanks
3. Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) – Level 2
Dates: 15th – 19th September 2025
Duration: 5 days
Tuition: USD 650
LPI is a method that uses dye or fluorescent liquids to find surface-breaking defects on non-porous materials. It’s commonly used in the aerospace, automotive, and casting industries.
By the end of this course, you will:
- Know how to apply, remove, and develop penetrant materials
- Visually inspect and evaluate test surfaces
- Perform inspections on welds, joints, and manufactured parts
- Understand the safety standards and documentation process
