The Zimbabwe Institute of Legal Affairs (ZILA) is a distinguished polytechnic training institution registered with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education.

The 2025 February Intake, which runs from 1 October to 14 December 2024, provides an opportunity for aspiring legal professionals to enroll in specialized training programs.

The institution accepts applicants with O-Level qualifications, offering them a pathway into legal careers such as paralegal work, court administration, and other legal support roles.

To qualify for admission at the Zimbabwe Institute of Legal Affairs (ZILA), applicants must meet the following entry requirements:

Academic Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 O-Level subjects, including English Language, with a grade of C or better.

    Applying for admission to the Zimbabwe Institute of Legal Studies (ZILS) in Harare is simple. Follow the steps below to secure your place:

    1. Download the Application Form – Obtain the official application form from the ZILS website
    2. Complete the Application Form – Fill in all required details accurately.
    3. Attach Required Documents – Include copies of your National ID and O-Level results with your application.
    4. Pay the Application Fee – A USD 10 application fee is required, payable via cash, bank transfer, or EcoCash.
    5. Submit Your Application – Send the completed application form along with the required documents to [email protected].

    Application Period: October 1 – December 14, 2024

    The Zimbabwe Institute of Legal Studies (ZILS) offers a range of programs designed to equip students with comprehensive legal knowledge and practical skills. Below is an overview of the programs offered and their respective entry requirements:

    National Certificate Level
    The National Certificate takes 1 year on Full-Time (1 year 6 months on Part-Time) to complete.

    1. Applied Law: Requires 5 Ordinary Level passes, including English Language.

    2. Forensic Science and Crime Investigations: Requires 5 Ordinary Level passes, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

    3. Forensic Accounting and Investigation: Requires 5 Ordinary Level passes, including English Language, Mathematics, and Accounts, plus any other two subjects.

    4. Mineral Law and Policy: Requires 5 Ordinary Level passes, including English Language and Geography, plus any other three subjects.

    5. Commerce and Law: Requires 5 Ordinary Level passes, including English Language and Accounts, plus any other three subjects.

    Higher National Diploma Programs

    ZILS provides HND programs in the following disciplines:

    1.Applied Law

    • Duration: 1 year
    • Entry Requirements: National Diploma in Applied Law

    2. Mineral Law and Policy

    • Duration: 1 year
    • Entry Requirements: National Diploma in Mineral Law and Policy

      Short Courses

      ZILS offers a range of short courses aimed at providing legal literacy and practical skills. These courses are ideal for individuals seeking to enhance their understanding of specific legal areas without committing to long-term study.

      • Duration: 12 weeks
      • Entry Requirements: No formal entry requirements
      • Fee: US$300.00 per module
      • Who Should Attend: Legal office administrators, legal receptionists, front office managers, members of parliament, chiefs, police officers, pastors, counselors, or anyone with an interest in law.
